The brief
Extended University is a different audience from the main undergraduate campus. Its students are usually older, often working, and choosing a programme for a specific professional reason rather than as a first step into adult life. Marketing that works on an eighteen year old does not work on them.
A graduation film for this group is also a different thing. For a traditional undergraduate it is the end of a rite of passage. Here it is frequently the end of something a person did at night, around a job and a family, which is a better story and deserves to be filmed as one.
Ceremonies are unrepeatable and unforgiving. Multi-camera coverage, a feed from the house sound rather than a microphone pointed at a speaker, and positions agreed with the venue in advance, because there is no second run.
