Electric aviation: brand film and desert testing

Work for an electric aviation company, covering the brand story, an executive interview and field testing in the high desert.

Selected films

Electric aviation brand film

Brand film for an electric aviation company.

Electric aviation CEO interview

The chief executive on the technology, the production programme and what comes next.

Electric aviation desert testing

Field testing filmed in the high desert.

The brief

Advanced aerospace is a hard subject to film because most of the work is invisible. The interesting part is engineering that happens in software, in wind tunnels and on test rigs, and none of it looks like anything.

The answer is people and place. An executive who can explain the idea in plain language without a slide behind him, and a test programme filmed where it actually happens, which in this case meant the high desert.

Desert production is its own discipline. Heat, dust, distance from anything, and light that changes completely across the day. Kit has to be protected, batteries do not behave, and the shooting window is set by when the light is usable rather than when the schedule would like it to be.

The material had to work for several audiences at once: investors, prospective engineering hires and industry press. That means one shoot and several cuts rather than one film trying to speak to everyone.

How this work gets made

People explain the technology

An engineer or executive speaking plainly beats animation of something abstract, almost every time.

Filmed where it happens

Test programmes in the field rather than a studio recreation. Harder, and the reason anyone watches.

Built for remote locations

Power, heat, dust and distance planned for, because there is no hire shop in the desert.

One shoot, several audiences

Investor, recruitment and press cuts from the same material rather than three productions.

Questions about this work

Can you film in remote or restricted locations?

Yes. Desert test sites, industrial facilities and restricted areas are part of this work, planned around access and safety before the day.

Can you handle technical subject matter?

Yes. The usual failure with technical video is that it is either wrong or incomprehensible. Getting a real expert on camera and editing carefully avoids both.

Can one shoot serve investors and recruitment?

Usually yes, if it is planned that way from the start. Retrofitting a second audience onto a finished film rarely works.
